Recording has become a new process for me this summer (very 21st Century). I have been working on a new album with Brice Malahude who lives in Brussels. I met him two years ago through video artist, collaborator and friend, Laia Cabrera. Brice and I have been sharing audio files over the internet and skyping regularly. The amazing thing - is that it is working really well. I have reached out to a number of other musicians who have also been collaborating with us this way, including: Nathan Larson (NYC), Shahzad Ismaily (always en route), Submerged (Brooklyn), Jarno Van Es (Tillburg, NL) and Pat Harris (Australia). Others that have been contributing, but in real time include: Joel Hamilton, Rohin Khemani, Jared Engel, Leron Thomas, Dan Neustadt, Christopher Hoffman and Dave Burnett. A couple of tunes will be posted soon for streaming. We are hoping to have the record done early November. Thank you to everyone who has been so generous with their time, energy and creativity.

Our hosts Nuria and Jordi made a beautiful party to celebrate the summer solstice. Fire crackers and fireworks were going off ALL night long. This night is as big as Christmas and New Years. Part of the tradition is to burn memorabilia of the past; books, furniture... anything and everything. We wrote down the things we wanted to leave behind to make room for the new, and then burned the paper. Cleansing. It's such a treat to be experiencing Barcelona this way.

One of the major challenges was dealing with the light. We needed to rehearse the piece in the dark so that we could see the video but it didn't get dark until around 10:30 p.m. - Summer solstice in France.My view.

3 years ago I asked Laia Cabrera via internet if she would be interested in performing with my band by projecting live video while we played. Via internet, she agreed. We met for the first time at that gig. This past winter she asked me, in person, if I would write, produce and perform music for a multimedia project she was developing with Nuria Legarda and Isabelle Duverger. Claim Your Place is an exploration of the subconscious with a focus on beauty, desire and violence. It's a project that is designed to evolve, grow and shape shift as each performance is tailored to the space it claims. These are images from it's first incarnation on May 26th at La Nacional in NYC.
